Artist’s Statement

I’m Orlando Dominic Gualtieri a Scottish artist, my work predominantly centres around sculpture.

Inspired by the raw and natural elements of wood, my practice focuses on exploring form and negative space, resulting in an individual and dynamic body of work.

My use of sustainably sourced wood as a primary material, I believe reflects my deep appreciation for the environment and my dedication to the preservation and celebration of nature through art.

I use both traditional techniques and where appropriate, modern methods and tools. Most of my work originates on the lathe. Although the lathe is an essential tool in my process, it is merely a means to an end.

While my craftsmanship is rooted in traditional techniques, I feel my pieces possess a distinct modern air, inviting viewers to contemplate the harmonious coexistence of the traditional and contemporary.

In experiencing my work, I encourage the viewer to engage with the piece not only on a visual, but equally on a tactile level.

Through my practice, I attempt to merge aesthetics with thoughtfulness and endeavour to create an immersive and thought-provoking experience that transcends the boundaries of time and place.
